A Letter To A Friend
Dear Irina,
I’m very pleased to hear from you again! I’m glad to know that you’ve settled brilliantly on campus and got acquainted with different foreign students. You are lucky enough that your academic year hasn’t started yet. But my studies began on the 1st of September and to tell the truth I have rather mixed impressions of my 4th university year.
Our fist day at the university began with rather difficult lesson of oral practice in English. I can’t say that this subject is too difficult, the teacher is too demanding. She supposes that there are no any other subjects except of her one. From the very beginning she gave us an enormous amount of homework, that’s why my weekend was spoiled and I spent almost all Sunday reading, translating and then of course learning by heart a huge text. Luckily, the first day of my 4th academic year finished with an interesting slide show on the History of English.
But things went worse with our further days at the university. Our light-hearted dreams of easy staying there have been desperately crashed. The farther we were going the stronger we were realizing that the 4th academic year promised to be the hardest one. We have four different types of English classes and every teacher considers his aspect to be the most essential one. One step sideway means immediate punishment. I know the discipline is very important for effective study, but how teachers can’t understand that we also want to have our time off free. Moreover we have to spend a month at school. This year we have practice session in teaching English. To be honest, the need of the forthcoming unknown event frightens a little. But I think I’ll cope with it.
That’s all about my first impression about the 4th year. May be you’ll tell me something about your own experience in brief. May be you’re a bit happier to have free weekends. Give my regards to your new friends and of course to your parents. I’m looking forward to hear from you soon.
